Lakshmanrao Bhide Memorial Lecture

We organise Lakshmanrao Bhide Memorial Lecture annually in January This lecture series celebrates the spirit of a great soul, Late Lakshmanrao Bhide, who worked selflessly and tirelessly for the global Indian community for over five decades.

Late Lakshmanrao Bhide was a RSS Pracharak all his life, who travelled extensively to over 50 countries and organised the Indian community and championed the cause of P I Os during a period of nearly 5 decades.

He was instrumental in setting up Friends of India Society International (FISI) which fought for democratic rights during the dark period of Emergency in 1975-77.

He played a significant part in influencing the GOI take up the cause of PIOs and NRIs who were not seen as assets of Bharat till that time. This recognition of their roots, their participation in Bharatiya growth story resulted in annual Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas celebrated by GOI annually from 2001 onwards.
