A short biography of Shri Yashwant Sinha

Yashwant Sinha was born in Patna on 6th November 1937. He attended school and university at Patna. In 1958, he received his Masters Degree in Political Science from Patna University. Between 1958 and 1960, Sinha taught Political Science at the same institution.

Lecturer in Political Science, Patna University, 1958-60; joined I.A.S. in 1960; was Deputy Commissioner, Santhal Paraganas; was Chairman, (i) D.T.C., Delhi and (ii) Drafting Committee of the UNCTAD Conference on Shipping in Geneva; was Consul-General of India, Frankfurt, West Germany; was Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Bihar; was Joint Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Shipping and Transport.

Sinha resigned from the Indian Administrative Service in 1984 and joined active politics as a member of the Janta Party. He worked as Minister of Finance from November, 1990 to June 1991 in Mr. Chandra Shekhar's Cabinet.
