Profile of Dr. Hieu Tran

Dr. Hieu Tran obtained his B.S. Degree in Pharmacy and his Pharm.D. Degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in Philadelphia in 1990 and 1993, respectively. He completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology with a sub-specialty in Cardiovascular Therapeutics and Antiarrhythmics at Hartford Hospital and the University of Connecticut. He most recently served as the associate professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at LECOM School of Pharmacy in Erie, Penn. As an educator and a scientist, Dr. Tran has been an integral part of the start-up of two Colleges of Pharmacy. Most recently, he was the Founding Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy in Erie, Penn. In this role, he was instrumental in attaining the institution’s accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).

As a practitioner, he has been responsible for the development of clinical services and clinical initiatives to promote the expertise of a pharmacist. He has received over $1 million in research funding, published many articles and abstracts (58), co-authored books (2) and has presented expert information at nearly 100 professional and scientific conferences throughout the United States.

Dr. Tran was elected to the State Board of Directors of the American Heart Association in Louisiana, and the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania where he has contributed to the promotion of healthier community initiatives. He has chaired committees and sub-committees in various professional organizations such as the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, International Society of Pharmacoeconomic and Outcome Research.

Additionally, Dr. Tran was Head of the Clinical and Pharmacy program, Education and Research overseeing three hospitals in Delaware. He has served in similar positions of responsibility in Louisiana and Pennsylvania.

Since his tenure at the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy, he has been selected to the 2007 Louisville Healthcare Fellows program and has received an appointment to The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels; and most recently received the 2009 MediStar Leadership Award from Medical News. Dean Tran is active in the local chapters of the American Heart Association and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, serving as a member of their respective boards. He is also Chair of the upcoming AHA 6th Annual Cardiovascular and Stroke Regional Conference which will be held in October 2009.
